Wednesday Bible Studies
A long-running tradition is the Wednesday Bible Study --- or, Potluck/Prayer/Bible Study. We meet in Hoick Conference Room (upper floor; handicap accessible) for food, fellowship and deep conversation. Everyone is welcome! Please join us at any time. Bible Studies are not "canned" or prepared. Whether we study a single book of the Bible or a major theme, we take our time to work through the Biblical witness, its background, and outside resources when appropriate. And there is plenty of time for everyoner to have her or his "say."
Previous Studies:
The Revelation of John
This last book of the New Testament is both reassuring and terrifying. Its images would make a spectacular Hollywood "action film" or doomsday movie!! Some early Christians did not think this book was "inspired" and did not want to include it in the Bible. Christians and other people today are often made uncomfortable by the violent language in this and other apocalyptic literature, unless they like the idea of condemnations to use on other people!!
Is the Revelation of John relevant in the 21st century? What was John's original message, and does it really convey a timeless message from God?
Women in the Holy Bible
Women play a significant, even huge, role in both the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and the New Testament. Yet many people are focused on a few apparently-negative comments about women in the letters of St. Paul. There were women prophets, disciples, and even apostles, however. And recent scholarship suggests that a female evangelist wrote the Letter to the Hebrews. Let's open hte book together and reveal the true status of women in the whole Bible, and then ask the tougher questions.
(Some Christian denominations, including the Roman Catholic Church and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, still refuse to ordain women to the Christian ministry. Others, including the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, have women pastors and even women bishops. Why is gender such a problem for the Body of Christ? Come and find out!)

Can I participate? Yes! Show up! Bring your Bible --- favorite translations are welcome, but we will compare several translations if necessary. And bring questions. We search for the spiritual strength which the Word provides us, not for "pat answers."
