Coming Up: September

Friday, September 5, we inagurate the first of First Fridays for Los Feliz Art Walk, including art displays in the Courtyard Gallery area.  The newly-restored Courtyard will be the hub of activity from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Join us !

Every Sunday

Eucharist (Holy Communion) 10:00 a.m. every Sunday; first Sunday of the month begins at 9:50 with an Old-Fashioned Hymn Sing.  Fellowship hour follows in Durkee Hall; first Sunday of the month is a Potluck dinner: everyone welcome.

Wednesday Bible Studies 

Weekly Adult Bible Study continues during mid-August with the study of  the Soul, Death and Afterlife.  We meet in Hoick Conference Room on the upper floor.  (The previous study on Women of the Bible can be found here. 

6:30 p.m.  Potluck Supper in Hoick Chapel
7:15 p.m.  Prayer and Bible Study follows

Why The Women of the Bible?  Women are so often neglected or taken for granted by the church.  And the Bible doesn't look like a feminist manual!  Yet there are dozens and dozens of courageous women in the Bible, and important stories about God's will being brought to completion because women answered the call to be prophets, disciples, servants, evangelists and even apostles!  (Yes, that's in the Bible!)  This course of study will also look at some scholarly evidence to tell the "back story" of the Bible's wonderful women.

Our Annual and Seasonal Schedule

	June 1, 2008:  Our 87th Anniversary Sunday-- join the celebration of our history and our future. This congregation is growing, moving and planning for the years ahead!
	June 7-8, 2008:  Christopher Street West Pride Festival, in West Hollywood.  Our congregation helps to staff the information/theme booth with other Reconciling congregations; we also march in the Parade on Sunday morning.  (Worship schedule at HLC does not change.)
	June 8, 2008:  Los Feliz Village Street Fair, on Vermont Avenue.  This 17th annual event is a neighbrhood treat, from 10:00 to 8:00 p.m.  We wil share a table with the American Catholic Church and www.HollywoodWedding.org.
	June 29, 2008:  Hollywood Call Back (tentative date) -- Expanded reception; more cool people; live music, good food; film clips!
	July 29, 2008:  Wedding Day:  The Seminar -- a workshop for pastors, lay and community leaders on the subject of our response to the California Supreme Court decision to legalize same-sex marriage.
	September 5, 2008:  First Friday Los Feliz Art Walk -- the first of First Fridays for the arts at our Courtyard Gallery and seven other neighbrohood galleries and studios.
	October 26, 2008:  Reformation Sunday  -- remember Luther's challenge to debate the authorities, and the ongoing challenge to keep the church faithful to the Gospel!
	November 2, 2008:  All Saints Sunday,  -- We remember those who have gone before us and are at rest in God's everlasting arms.
	November 16, 2008:  Hooray for Hollywood (Dedication Sunday) --  our chance to remember and build upon all the resources we have received from the past and are dedicating to future mission.
	11th Annual Hollywood Inter-Faith Choir Festival -- (date to be determined) An extraordinary annual holiday treat of fabulous music from a dozen neighborhood choirs, both individually and as a one large mass choir.
	November 30, 2008:  Hollywood Remembers / World AIDS Day -- Quilt Panels from the National AIDS Memorial Quilt displayed in the Sanctuary; special music, candles and bells in memory of our loved ones.
	November 30, 2008:  First Sunday in Advent --  The season of Advent leading up to Christmas
