Education and Learning Opportunities

2008 looks to be a year of exploding opportunity for learning at Hollywood Lutheran Church.  And this new web presence will be a part of it.

Catechism and Membership 

A new Adult Inquirer's Class will be forming during Lent 2008 (February--March).  This is traditionally a 6-week unit of study with Pastor Dan, leading to baptism or membership in the church.  No one is required to join, but may attend simply to get a better understanding of the Christian faith and our local mission.

If you are interested, please talk to Pastor Dan right away.  The first class was held April 5, but there is still time to join! 

Wednesday Adult Study Begins Course on "Women of the Bible"

See our page on "Bible Women."  This course is not a "ladies group" study, but will be the regular Wednesday night event in Spring/Summer 2008.  You do not have to be a member of this congregation to attend and contribute your experience and ideas!  Please come!

Tentative Plan for a Gay Men's Study/Support Group

We have tossed this idea around for several years.  The presence of lesbian/gay, bisexual and transgender Christians in the church continues to inflame people with disagreement, hatred and even violence.  Why are we so accepting?  Are we ignoring the central teachings of the Christian faith?

If there is enough interest, we will form a small study/support group, probably to meet in someone's home, to discuss the relevant things which support us in faith and grace.  This is not a Bible Study, but something much broader, including plenty of time to share the life and faith experiences we have all had which either shaped us as gay people or sent us running away from the church for many years.
